My good friend Russ Garcia passed away yesterday morning after 95 incredible years.
UNKL RUSL - as he used to sign his letters to me.
I am among countless others to have been blessed with the opportunity of working with and knowing this wonderful man. Personally, I count myself fortunate to have spent the good part of the last 10 years working with him on three albums as well as live concerts and just all round good times.
What a great time we had in LA recording Come Rain Come Shine with Buddy’s Band with (Major) Tom McLeod followed by celebratory pancakes at IHOP.... Happy memories!
Our live concert recording at Auckland Town Hall with the "Neophonic"
Earlier this year I travelled to Kerikeri with the Auckland Youth Orchestra to perform some of the first gorgeous arrangements he wrote for my NZSO album, including his arrangement of Smile which he wrote in 3 hours - including the individual parts. A treat to sing again for him
Russ and his lovely wife Gina were the living example of all that a great relationship can be and Gina was a huge part of Russ' success. I learned so much from them.
My condolences to Gina and all who loved him
Rest in Peace Russ

It really is Food and Beveridge…
One reviewer once wrote
"… IF, as William Shakespeare says, music is the food of love then
Tim Beveridge… definitely qualified as a deep-dish apple pie
(sometimes spicy, often comfortingly familiar, always satisfying."
